In designing the characters, we aimed to stay close to the cultural and visual elements of the indigenous Arctic people. The cold atmosphere, dominant whites, and lack of a visible horizon inspired a minimalist, black-and-white approach. The animation was manually created, with digital compositing added afterward.
Approximately 4,700 frames were drawn on paper, with careful attention to preserving pre-production details throughout. Production took five months, providing invaluable experience in animation and meticulous production processes. “Flight in Depth” won several student awards, including Best Screenplay at Iran’s Youth Visual Arts Festival, Best Short Animation in Tehran’s Khwarizmi Youth Festival.
